All important answers to your questions

For whom is eyelid correction appropriate?

This procedure most often solves dissatisfaction with the appearance of people over 35 years of age. Excess and sagging skin on the upper eyelids and excess skin and wrinkles and puffiness on the lower eyelids are usually the first signs of aging. Then the skin begins to lose elasticity, ie collagen and elastin. Excess and sagging skin, which can also hang over the eye, makes you look tired, sad, even angry. In younger people, it is usually just a swollen eyelid without excess skin. In this case, only the adipose tissue is removed or reshaped. In the elderly, however, there is usually a loss of skin elasticity and wrinkling of the skin (ptosis). In these cases, with the correction of eyelids – blepharoplasty, we also remove excess skin.

Who is not a real candidate for eyelid correction?

You may not be the right candidate for blepharoplasty if you are facing eye disease, such as if you have dry eyes or have experienced retinal detachment or glaucoma in the past. Surgery in all these cases is not completely ruled out. If you are suitable for the procedure, this will be assessed by our cosmetic surgeons at the examination. At that time, you need to inform them in great detail about any possible vision problems or any past eye procedures. You are also an unsuitable or at least very risky candidate for blepharoplasty if you smoke, have high blood pressure, face resuscitation diseases or have diabetes. You are also at risk for blepharoplasty if you have thyroid problems or bulging eyes – these problems increase the chances of complications with this operation.

Why consultation is important?

The cosmetic surgeon will carefully examine the upper and lower eyelids, as well as the forehead, both at rest and during various facial expressions. He will find out what quality your skin is, how elastic it is, how much excess skin you have on your upper and lower eyelids, whether you have dark circles and what kind of forehead and eyebrows you have. Based on this, he will advise you on which procedure is most suitable for you – either upper eyelid blepharoplasty, lower eyelid blepharoplasty only or all four eyelid blepharoplasty. In some cases, one of the non-surgical methods of rejuvenation (botulinum toxin, dermal fillers or special cosmetics) may be enough to rejuvenate your eyes.

What we can't eliminate with eyelid correction?

With eyelid correction – blepharoplasty, we can eliminate the appearance of tired eyes, ie excess and sagging skin, and swollen eyes. However, the procedure is not intended to eliminate dark circles under the eyes and eliminate t. i. crow’s feet, as we call wrinkles at the outer corner of the eye, which are the result of laughing. These problems can be treated with non-surgical procedures, such as dermal fillers, botulinum toxin or cosmetics for special skin care.

Upper eyelidsCorrection

Lower eyelid correction

By correcting the lower eyelids, we correct various irregularities of the lower eyelids. The most common problem of the lower eyelids are the eyelids, which are usually more pronounced in the morning. They are largely caused by the bulging of fat pads around the eyeball, which is caused by weakened ligaments that hold fat in place. Due to gravity, the subcutaneous tissue of the cheeks slides down and the outline of the eye cavity is observed through the skin. With age, some excess skin also appears under the eyes, which is not the rule. Two different approaches are used to improve the appearance of the area under the eyes, namely transcutaneous / subciliary blepharoplasty and transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The cosmetic surgeon will decide on a specific technique for surgical rejuvenation of the lower eyelid based on your anatomy, the amount of excess skin on the lower eyelid and the presence of dark circles.

Non-surgical eyelid rejuvenation

The area around the eyes can also be rejuvenated with non-surgical methods. This is especially true for the elimination of dark circles under the eyes and wrinkles at the outer corner of the eyes that have formed over the years as a result of laughing. These problems are alleviated by injecting dermal fillers or botulinum toxin into the area above or below the eyes, thus filling deep wrinkles and various cavities. Non-surgical methods also refresh and rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes, but unlike eyelid correction – blepharoplasty, which is a permanent procedure, the effects of fillers and Botox usually last from a few months to one or. for a maximum of two years.

How eyelid correction is performed

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia. The incision is made in the crease of the upper eyelid. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty or all four eyelid blepharoplasty is performed simultaneously under either local or general anesthesia. The cosmetic surgeon will decide on a specific technique for surgical rejuvenation of the lower eyelid based on your anatomy, the amount of excess skin on the lower eyelid and the presence of dark circles. All incisions during eyelid correction are deliberately hidden in the natural structures of the eyelids. After the procedure under local anesthesia, you can go home immediately, after the procedure under general anesthesia, you can wake up under supervision in the waiting room, and after the surgeon’s examination, you can go home.
