Nose surgery: Examination and consultation

Our team, Before the procedure, performs a detailed examination of the area around the nose and face, as each nose has its own specifics. Once you entrust us with your wishes and expectations about the appearance of the nose after the procedure, we will introduce you to the options available. They will also discuss the need for recovery after surgery. Nasal surgery – rhinoplasty is performed in adults. In cases of severe deformity of the nose, it is also performed on individuals who are not yet of legal age, usually at the age of 16. The procedure can greatly improve the self-confidence and self-esteem of a young person.

Nose surgery: Different techniques

Surgery of the tip or tip of the nose

Reshaping the tip of the nose is one of the biggest challenges for a cosmetic surgeon. During the procedure, it is necessary to separate the cartilage that supports the top of the nose. Separation can lead to collapse of the tip of the nose and rotated or weak projection, so it is even more important that the procedure is performed by an experienced surgeon.

Surgery of the tip or tip of the nose

This procedure is performed on the cartilage, mucous membranes and bones that separate the left and right sides of the nose. The nasal septum can bend to one side and obstruct the airway. Its deviation may be due to an accident or it may be congenital. Septoplasty is performed under local anesthesia to level the septum. After the procedure, we apply tampons for a few days so that the nasal passage heals in the new position.

Nose surgery: Different techniques

Functional rhinoplasty

Functional rhinoplasty is a procedure that eliminates problems with breathing through the nose. It usually also includes septoplasty or turbinoplasty.

Turbionoplasty

Swollen mucous membranes or overgrown bone can also interfere with breathing through the nose. Turbinoplasty removes excess mucosa or bone from the nasal cavities. In addition to eliminating breathing problems, this procedure also alleviates or eliminates snoring or apnea (shorter periods of time when we stop breathing at night).

How is rhinoplasty performed?

Nose surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The procedure, which lasts up to two hours, is performed in the morning, so you can leave the clinic the same afternoon. Minor corrections can also be made under local anesthesia. In both cases, you must be completely healthy for the procedure. Before discharge home, patients are usually given tampons in their noses, which are removed at a check-up in a few days.

How does recovery after surgery go?

The pain after nose surgery is mild and lasts up to three days after the procedure. If necessary, prescribe a painkiller, usually Lekadol is enough. The first week after surgery, you will have a special splint on your nose that provides mechanical protection to your nose. The brace will be removed by dr. Young at the checkup. Swelling after surgery can be only minimal, but it can be very extensive – in this case, even the eyelids can become swollen. The swelling is almost imperceptible as early as one week after the procedure, and it can often take up to a year for it to disappear completely. Bruises are also present after surgery, which usually disappear after two weeks. After removing the tampons from the nose, the nose is slightly blocked, which is due to swollen nasal mucosa and swelling, as well as clotted blood and secretions may be present in the nose. We advise you to rinse your nose with physiological fluid and avoid blowing your nose for another one to two weeks after the procedure. After the procedure, we also recommend sleeping with your head raised by about 30 degrees, which slightly reduces swelling and bruising. It is not recommended to expose yourself to the sun or touch your nose for at least two months after the procedure. Increased aerobic activity should be avoided for two to four weeks after the procedure. During this time, it is advisable to give up contact sports, as the nasal bones need at least three weeks to reach 70% strength. When the swelling goes away, the first results of the procedure will be visible. The final result of the operation is visible in a year.
